Cultural inheritance

Since the fall of the Western Roman Empire in the fifth century CE, many have aspired to reclaim the best essence of Roman civilization. For centuries, classical Rome has remained the standard to which many cultures have compared themselves. The Roman legacies in art, architecture, law, politics, commerce, and ancient religion are the basic foundation of our world today. They are the eternal common heritage shared by all existing Western nations.

The academic study of Rome and its legacy can now be supplemented by the experience of joining a worldwide network of clubs, which facilitate sharing that knowledge within a community within the context of interaction with living history and reconstructionist groups. The Egressus Clubs are one component of GO ROMAN and are the collegiate chapters of Sodalitas Egressus.  

An enriched experience

An Egressus Club seeks to provide an environment for students interested in, or studying, classical subjects to meet in, where members can discuss archaeology, explore the political and military history of Rome, engage in Latin and Greek conversations and enrich their experiences through presentations by living history and reconstructionist groups. You can make contact with people all over the globe who share a love of all things Roman, help preserve the history and glory of Rome through practical support and have also of course have fun.

The local administrators of Nova Roma can provide advice and support and when that is combined with the assistance offered by the Central Planning Team of GO ROMAN, an individual Egressus Club is afforded every available means to ensure successful event planning.

Clubs will also be encouraged to participate in service work, volunteering for local archaeological excavations, fundraising to support restoration work on monuments of local, national and international importance, and participating in educational events that aim to introduce the general public to the world of Ancient Rome.

Romanitas in the 21st Century

Joining an Egressus Club opens a gateway to experience the resurgence of Romanitas within the context of the modern world. Each club has the potential through growth in its membership to form a vibrant community within a collegiate setting and link with the activities and experiences of other Egressus Clubs. 

Membership of an Egressus Club is a highly rewarding experience, which can enable the participants the opportunity to truly “live the experience” that once was Ancient Rome.
